Our Typical
Hiring Process

Our process includes a resume and portfolio review, a 30-minute introductory video call, and a two-hour technical session, focusing on your experiences and skills without trick questions. Learn more about our transparent and engaging approach to interviews!

Our interviews are generally hosted over video chat and average around two hours, though we build in 30 minutes at the end for candidate questions or in case extra time is needed for discussions. Interviews orient around two themes: initial introductions and technical review.

During initial introductions, we aim to understand your background, interests, and motivations. We know that people are not defined by their past roles, so we also try to understand what type of experiences and challenges are important to you. We will ask clarifying questions to better understand the specific work you accomplished and your perspectives around them. While we may ask targeted questions, we try to avoid any trick questions or pop quizzes. Common questions you may be asked (depending on role) include:

  • What was a complicated bug you’ve found or fixed? How did you discover, diagnose, and remediate it?
  • What is a technical topic that interests you? Could you explain it to us in as much detail as possible?

During the technical review, your interviewers will deep dive into assessing your technical knowledge bases. Depending on your desired role, they may ask you to review code, write code, reverse engineer programs, describe program environments, or perform other demonstrative technical tasks. Please have a computer on hand and online that you feel comfortable typing on. Code reviews will generally involve logging into an online application where your interviewers can see the same screen to talk through demonstrations in your choice of programming language(s). If you can provide some open source code that you’ve written (or, even better, a specific commit you are proud of), we would love to dig into it with you.

This direct engagement in mission-critical operations brings a great sense of accomplishment. You will see the real-world effects of your contributions. At Zetier, your work matters – to us, to our clients, and to the broader community.

All Zetier employees are hourly and get paid for every hour worked (no gotchas or weird cutoffs). While schedules generally hover near 40 hours per week, some employees prefer more or fewer hours in general. Most teams also do not have set working hours; we just ensure teammates can coordinate effectively. Please let us know what works best for you!

Zetier provides a combined paid time off pool (e.g., sick time, personal days, vacations) that grows every hour you work. We also provide all 11 paid Federal holidays each year along with standard programs for bereavement, parental leave, military leave, and jury duty.

Zetier understands not all weeks are created equal and provides Comp Time to help balance those hours around surge efforts and vacations, without tapping into Paid Time Off. Comp Time allows employees to “save up” hours over time, then use them instead of (or in addition to) PTO or Holidays for regular (e.g., every 2nd Friday off) or periodic (e.g., extra-long vacation) events.

Zetier provides an employer-funded ICHRA (Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Account) to all full-time employees for maximum healthcare flexibility meeting everyone’s individual needs. This tax-advantaged account reimburses employees for out-of-pocket medical expenses to include premiums, deductibles, co-pays, and most other health expenses. Employees can select any healthcare plan providing Minimum Essential Coverage, and we recommend taking a look at HealthSherpa.com for personalized options. Zetier currently contributes $1,050 per month for individuals and $3,400 per month for families; we believe these limits fully or near-fully cover everyone. If your situation or market is unique, please let us know.

Zetier is committed to the health and wellness of our employees across all stages of individual and family life to include providing six weeks of Paid Parental Leave following the birth, adoption, or placement of children.

Zetier offers a pre-tax benefit account used to pay for eligible dependent care services such as preschool, summer day camp, before- or after-school programs, and child or adult daycare. Employees may select an amount to be automatically withheld from their paycheck each month on a pre-tax basis that will be deposited into their DCFSA up to the annual maximum.

Zetier offers a 401(k) through Guideline with 7% matching and immediate vesting.

Zetier additionally provides employer-funded Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Group Term Life Insurance, and Accidental Death & Dismemberment insurance. We’ve also kicked off an opt-in benefit for employees to use DeleteMe (https://joindeleteme.com) to maximize employee privacy opportunities.

Zetier recognizes the importance of continuous learning and is dedicated to supporting the professional development of our employees. As such, we provide eligible employees with up to $5,250 per year to use towards educational programs that enhance their professional capabilities.

Zetier recognizes the importance and value of the security community at large. We encourage and support participating in and giving back to that community through talks, mentoring, and contribution to open source software projects.
